STORY OF CLOISTERS
The Stations of the Cross is a major feature of The Cloisters on the Platte, a 931-acre retreat center near Omaha, Nebraska. The Cloisters was founded by Joe Ricketts, a businessman, entrepreneur and devout Catholic. His vision for a retreat focused on the tradition of St. Ignatius and silent meditation. “People will come here to enhance their spiritual life, to make it deeper, and really to make that whole aspect of their lives healthier.”
Ricketts searched the world for a Stations display with appropriate impact for the site. He found nothing that matched his vision. So he recruited a team of nationally recognized sculptors to create something unique. The complete 14 Stations consist of 58 monumental bronze figures about 7’ tall. This is the largest and most significant Stations of the Cross ever created.
